Christmas - God Elevating Man

A Paper by Arthur J Licursi 12/23/06

The prevailing humanistic view of most men on earth today is based on man being self-abled; to lift his own self to a higher level. It’s called self-improvement. Of course it never works to any great degree because nothing created improves on its own. Man is forever bound to the human sphere until and unless God intervenes.

From the following we can see that it is God who must come down to intervene in the life of man, that He had created, in order to lift man up, to participate in the divine, eternal, realm of God.

The law of thermodynamics called entropy is a law of physics that says all things left to their self will devolve into disorder.

E.g., a piece of finely honed piece of metal will eventually devolve to rust.

Degradation and decay are the normal way in the physical realm, as things are left to their self. The archaeologist sees it easily as they explore past civilizations. Only God can intervene in the natural order that is subject to entropy.

Man, even after being created by God from the dust of the ground, is subject to the laws of entropy. Man, by the added element of Sin indwelling his flesh, has an accelerated downward pull upon him. Thankfully, God has intervened in the affairs of individual men. God has made a way for man to be uplifted from fallen humanity, to be elevated into the divine and eternal realm by receiving of the divine life and nature. Again this must begin with God coming “down” to man.

To see how it is that God elevates man, consider how it is that the elements of creation may be seen to become elevated to varying degrees, as the greater created lives come down to partake of the lesser life, elevating the lesser to the higher realm.

  • First, and most elemental in creation we have chemicals, the elements that are found in the soil; such as iron, magnesium, calcium, etc. without which physical life can not exist.
  • Then, as the higher level of creation – the plants reach down with their roots to take in the elements of the soil, raising them to participate in a higher level of the creation – the plant life.
  • Then the animal then comes down to elevate the plant and lift it to a higher level of the created conscious beings – the animal life
  • Man then reaches down to eat of the animal, lifting the animal elements to a higher life of a man, a self-conscious and God-conscious being – the human life.
  • Then God, who created all things by Christ, sent Christ Jesus down to participate in humanity and lift humanity to the level of participating in divinity – now by Christ’s indwelling life.

It is at this time of year – Christmas - that we celebrate the coming down of God into the human body of a baby – God named the baby Jesus. Thirty-three and one half years later this baby would make it possible for men to be lifted into the divine realm of God.

If we would do as the 14 year old Jewish girl Mary did, receive of God coming down to man in the person of His Seed, Jesus, then we may be lifted higher than any man can dream. We may then enter the divine household of God as His birthed children, born of God, bearing the very life of God the Father, by His Seed, now as the Spirit of life within the womb of our human spirit.
