Session #2 – The Sanctification of Our Being

Sanctification By 1st Having Christ’s Spirit of Life as Our Life – The Issue is His Life In Us

1 Cor. 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening (life-giving) spirit.

1 John 5:11-12 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Col. 1:26-28 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 28Whom we preach, …

Col. 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Christ’s Spirit of Life Replacing Our Old Independent Self-Life

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

In Possessing Christ, We Possess the Grace of God

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (NASB)

Ephes. 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that (faith) not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9not as a result of works, that no one should boast. (NASB)

2 Tim. 4:22 The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.

2 Cor. 12:9 he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

We Are Taken Care of … As We Take God At His Word to … Trust Him.

Our One Work – To Believe (Trust in, Cling to, Rely Upon)

John 6:29 Jesus … said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe (trust in cling to and rely upon) on him whom he hath sent (His Son Jesus).

Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Trusting Christ in Us as Our Life … is the Answer for Christian Living

2 Cor. 1:8-10 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: 9But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: 10Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

1. We are already deliveredin spirit – by regeneration

2. We are now being deliveredin soul – by renewal

3. And we will be deliveredin body – by exchange of our body for incorruptible.

“The Salt Covenant” Speaks of God’s Work on Our Behalf

Lev 2:13 every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.

· “Salt” speaks of Christ in two ways.

1) Christ’s death on the cross was to preserve us from judgment.

2) His life in us, preserves us daily (Saves us, by renewing our soul).

· “Salt” is a “type” of Christ, just as is the “bread & wine”

o A Symbol of Christ’s life given 1) for our redemption, and 2) to be our life.

· Only the Salted Offerings were to be eaten – taken in

· King Artaxerxes gave unlimited Salt to Ezra “according to the hand of the Lord Ezra 7:6

o The Lord uses “all things” of the world we live in, even a heathen king, to bring us Christ as Salt for us, and as Salt in us.

2 Cor. 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

· All situations and circumstances can yield salt, to be realized by us in our life

i.e., Ephes. 4:1 I (Paul) therefore, the prisoner of the Lord … ( <<< in Caesar’s prison)

False Substitute Salt – Our Self-righteousness /“Our” Good Works are as Unsalted

· Looks the same but … have no power to preserve, they are “dead works.”

· No Leaven - “The leaven of the Pharisees,” hypocrisy, the corrupting element

Lev 2:11 No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the Lord, shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the Lord made by fire.

No Honey - Human Sweetness – “niceness,” not of the Lord’s life

Prov 25:27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

· Our Works are “as filthy rags” – Has To Do With a Loss of Life

Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags (menstrual Cloths) …

The occurrence of a woman’s cycle means a missed opportunity for life (a baby) to come forth.

Christ Making Us Whole May Be Seen in These Metaphors (Types – see diagram)

Romans 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being (having been) reconciled, we shall be (yet to come) saved (sozo, made whole) by his life.

· Our 3-part being: Body, soul and spirit

· Israel’s traversing 3 lands: Egypt / the Wilderness / the Land of Canaan

· The 3-part Temple: Outer Court/Holy Place and the Holiest of All

Christ In Us - Our Sanctification – Makes us whole.

1 Thes. 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify (set you apart) you wholly (completely); and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Cor. 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made (“is” made = continues to be made) unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Sanctification means to “be set-apart” – Requires dividing, separation

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God (Christ, now in you) is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

· Soul = joints , speaks of action and movement, “doing”

· Spirit = marrow, speaks of the “life source ... for our doing”

Christ’s Spirit of Life”… Is the Indwelling Anointingthat Us Sanctifies

Sanctifying the Whole Temple of God - Setting it apart Unto God – Body, Soul and Spirit

Exodus 30:25-29 And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil. 26And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the testimony, 27And the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of incense, 28And the altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and the laver and his foot. 29And thou shalt sanctify them, that they may be most holy: whatsoever toucheth them shall be holy.

The Anointing – Which is “Christ’s Spirit” in our spirit

1 Cor. 3:17b …; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

1 Cor. 6:19 … know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you

1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction (anointing) from the Holy One (Jesus Christ), ….

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

The Pattern of the OT Temple - The Anointing Oil

4 Four Spices Added to One Hin of Oil (The Resurrected Jesus… was added to the Godhead)

Rom 1:3-4 Concerning … Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

Exodus 30:23-25 Take thou also unto thee principal spices,

1) of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and

(Myrrh was used to anoint dead bodies – speaking of His death)

NOW NOTE: Spices “2) & 3)” are each 250 shekels (500 shekels split in two = two sided cross)

2)of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and”

(Sweet cinnamon is a type of the sweetness of His death)

3) “of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels, 24And

(Sweet calamus is a type of resurrection life)

4)of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and “

These four spices have been added to the One Him of Oil – added to the Godhead.

5)of oil olive an (one) hin: 25And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.”

One Spirit of God, as the Oil, is forever marked with the elements that have been added to the Godhead by the experience of Jesus by His incarnation, suffering, death and resurrection.

Our Three Part Temple – to be Wholly Sanctified by the Anointing

1) Sanctification of Our Human Spirit - Has become the Holiest of All, by Regeneration

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

1 Cor. 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

1 John 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

The Ark, Christ within Our Spirit, Contains These Twice Hidden Elements of Christ

o Aaron’s budded rod (Recall Israel questioned Moses (Christ) and Aaron’s (the Spirit) authority)

o Type of the authority of “the spirit of life in Christ Jesus” speaking within our spirit, as Lord (kurious, controller) of our being.

o Tables of the Law

o Type to “the law (working) of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus,” to guide our soul.

o Pot of Manna

o A Type of Christ as our ever-present supply of the bread of life, to feed our soul

2) Sanctification of Our Soul - Occurs By the Flow of Life from Our Spirit – Bay by Day

The furniture in the Holy Place of the soul represents the three (3) faculties of our soul.

Our mind, our emotion and our will.

o Table of Showbread – typifies our mind of our soul, to be fed by the living manna

o Lampstand – typifies the light of life we may have by the anointing of the spirit

o Altar of Incense – typifies the place of communion of … soul & spirit

These three faculties of the organ of our soul become functionally alive

o by the anointing of the Spirit of life in Christ, which flows from our regenerated spirit,

o as we (in our soul) maintain our union with Him in our spirit.

3) Sanctification of Our Body (As Christians while on this earth, sin still indwells our bodies)

This is the Outer Court –– In the world, under the open sky, where the devil is the prince of the power of the air, but where sacrifices were made under the power of the anointing.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Rom 8:13 ... but if ye through the Spirit do mortify (put to death) the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Yes, One Day Coming – “in the twinkling of an eye”

1 Cor. 15:53 this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54b Death is swallowed up in victory. 55O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? <END>
